About Us
Founded in 2020, The Australian Society of Mayflower Descendants is an educational, non-profit organisation. Membership requires proof of lineage from one of the passengers who travelled to America on the Mayflower in 1620.
The Mayflower Society in Australia was officially chartered by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants on Australia Day 2020 after a rigorous verification process. Australia is one of the few Mayflower Societies to be formed outside the United States, along with those in Canada and Europe. Learn more about our Society's beginnings here.
The Mayflower Society in Australia is committed to supporting research into the lineal descent of the Mayflower Pilgrims and furthering our understanding of why the Mayflower Pilgrims were important, how they shaped western civilisation, and what their 1620 voyage means in the world today.
Our Australian members share a pride in their heritage and a desire to keep the stories and achievements of their ancestors alive for future generations. See the locations of our current members on the map of Australia below, and zoom out to see those residing in the United States.
"All great and honourable actions are accompanied with great difficulties, and both must be enterprised and overcome with answerable courage."
William Bradford, a Mayflower passenger and Governor of the Plymouth colony
Our Objectives
The formal objectives of the Australian Society of Mayflower Descendants are to:
(1) Perpetuate the memory of our ancestors (Pilgrims); honor and preserve their unfailing strength, undying courage and abiding faith; and maintain and defend the principles of civil and religious liberty to which they themselves and those after them committed their lives.
(2) Be known and recognised as an educational society and not-for-profit organisation exclusively for charitable, religious, educational and scientific purposes under US and Australian tax codes and regulations.
